Pataki for president? Please...

Posted by dlovell | 08/04/05

So George Pataki is thinking about running for president. You may notice that I said that months ago, and now it's proving true.
In order to brace for a 2008 presidential bid (and in order to ensure he won't lose miserably to a surging Eliot Spitzer), Pataki has announced he won't run for yet another term as our governor.
(Please allow me to quickly point out how ridiculous it is that a guy so adamant about term limits when he first ran for office would make such a "surprise" announcement AFTER he served three terms)
Anyway, Pataki has no chance at winning the presidency. I'll bet my new Jeep on it. This week, George made headlines when he vetoed spending for Syracuse city schools renovations. That's a move that will likely leave a mark...

Update...

Posted by dlovell | 08/17/05

I called Dr Pepper today, curious about its new line of "Fountain Classics" sodas.
I'm still waiting on a return call, but I'm hoping one of the new flavors will be chocolate...

Update 2...

Dr Pepper called me back today. I gave them my questions and I'm waiting to hear back.
Now it's dawned on me that I may not even like chocolate soda...

The gas bubble

Posted by dlovell | 08/18/05

Well, President Bush's war for oil is very obviously failing, huh?
Seriously, I've read a bunch lately from left-wingers who continually claim we're fighting in Iraq for cheap oil, and when I'm suddenly paying about $2.65 for each gallon of gas, I can't see how the argument holds up. But no matter. I've got a different bone to pick with Bush.
I'm spending about $20 a week more in gasoline now than I did at this time last year. Maybe more. The government and the big media tell me that it's foreign oil taking advantage of the laws of supply and demand. If they cut supply, they can increase the costs and we'll keep on buying. Well, there's something we can do about that...

Chocolate soda...

You're probably fed up with all this by now, but I thought I'd give you the quick update on how things went with Dr Pepper.
I finally received an e-mail response from them today (I keep saying it's Dr Pepper, but I'm really talking to the folks at Cadbury-Schwepps, makers of Dr Pepper).
DeeAnn Denton, a spokesperson for the company, was very kind when we first spoke, took down my questions and promised to get back to me. The e-mail I received this morning went something like this:
"Unfortunately, we can't comment on specific plans for new flavor introductions at this time. If you are interested in Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper (DCVDP), let me know. We have had a tremendous success with DCVDP...
