My friend Paul and I have an ongoing discussion (when I say ongoing, I mean for, like 10 years) about million-dollar ideas. Mostly they're things that pop into our heads that we just know are necessary. And that we know someone, some day, will finally create and market.

Not only does Bud Ransom know a ton about Kren bats, but he's also a helluva good guy.
I'm looking right now at a ball Bud sent me, which he had signed by Joe Kren Jr. a couple of years ago. Joe was the last member of the Kren family that made baseball bats from 1910 to 1958. Joe, as the story goes, wasn't interested in keeping his father's bat company, so he sold it. I've been scouting the Internet for any information I can find about Kren bats. I've actually found some interesting advertisements from the 1960s for Krens. They don't look the same as Kren's hand-turned models. They don't have the distinctive diamond logo. And I've found that there's a guy building Kren bat racks right now.....
