Christmas was lighter shade of Pink in Skaneateles

For the last quarter of the 20th century, the late Pinky Lipe’s talents dominated Skaneateles’ Christmas landscape. She whipped up many an intricate Christmas Village and probably decorated more than 150 different public holiday trees. Her touch remains, in her children and in her creative projects that fueled many a Skaneateles child’s imagination.

Phyllis Burt Lipe, also known as Pinky, passed away in August after a lengthy illness, which kept her away from her beloved village of Skaneateles. She had moved into the village after she and husband Gordon “Tippy” Lipe had divorced in the early 1970s. You haven’t lived until you’ve crossed the 50 mark and watched the Victoria Secret’s Fashion show extravaganza with your 85-year-old dad. It was actually a “remote” toss- up between “Celtic Women” on PBS and the VS’s sexiest night on television.

One thing I really came away from this viewing with is that wings make an outfit.

I mean the “Celtic Women” were these gorgeous songbirds performing in front of a castle with an orchestra. They were clad in jewel-colored evening gowns and had real talent, such as pure, sweet voices with range and there was cleavage too. They had this fiddle player with straight, long blonde hair who was dancing around...
