The art fix - understanding mother’s spells

eleahy, Wondering about
My parents, Bill and Marion have switched hats literally and figuratively.
My mother was always accommodating, gracious, smart, cultured, humble and fun loving – and now she is the antithesis.

About 10 years ago, she started to have what she called “spells.” One of my brothers, home on a visit, asked me if I had ever seen one?

I said, “No.”

Instead, big brother set up an obstacle course in the backyard. This started with riding on the lawn, not the easiest surface during the pre-mountain bike era, yet if we fell, it perhaps it wouldn’t hurt as much? That actually just occurred to me...

One more from the Twilight Zone

eleahy, Wondering about
From outside Morris's Grill one night: that's finger on window painting by Kevin Shumway - a world class guy. Photo by Ellen Leahy
I dreamt last week of Darryl “Burt” Lipe, the late owner of the late world famous Morris’s Grill in the village of Skaneateles. He had renovated his beloved bar into the shape of a figure eight. In the dream, Mo’s walls were covered in dark wood like a formal Mahogany casket, but the same raucous barroom antics ensued on and off the street, within.

The closing of this local institution has garnered much ink. In short, the Seitz building, which housed Morris’s Grill, fell into disrepair and the owners lacked the capital to bring it back.

They sold it to a developer from downstate, who, in order to make its nut, decided to turn the upper floors into luxury condos...
