Office and Lab Space Available at SyracuseCoE's Headquarters Building (SYRACUSE, NY, 4/28/09) - SyracuseCoE will open its unique new headquarters later this year. The award-winning design is meant to showcase and create a test bed for innovations in environmental and energy systems. SyracuseCoE partners are actively planning collaborations that will be featured in the facility during the Ninth International Healthy Buildings Conference and Exhibition. We invite you to join us. This LEED-Platinum building will have both laboratory and office space for research and business collaborations on innovative products and services in our core focus areas: indoor environmental quality, water resources, and clean and renewable energy. Most importantly the SyracuseCoE HQ has lab and office space available for its partners. Companies and organizations with services, products, and research and demonstration investments in our core areas are welcome to license the use of our unique facilities and/or locate functions in our building. Membership requires implementation of selected measures from a "checklist" of steps that can be taken to reduce the environmental impacts of an office and its employees. SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner O'Brien & Gere, as its first signatory and one of 33 charter members, has contributed significantly to the program. For instance, David Cass and Bill Schew, of O'Brien & Gere's Blue Bell office, each directly participated in the commitment's development, including the creation of an O'Brien & Gere "Carbon Calculator." Clarkson University Environmental Team Wins International Environmental Competition (POTSDAM, NY, 4/28/09) - The Clarkson University Remediation Engineers (CURE) student team won first place for its zero waste solution at the 19th Annual Environmental Design Contest in Las Cruces, NM. The CURE team received a trophy and a $2,500 prize for their combined treatment processes and off-site recycling/reuse options that resulted in the desired zero waste criteria for the competition. Their processes aimed specifically at the recovery of reusable solvents, energy, and water. The students received two gallons of a corrosive solvent waste stream that they treated by distillation to recover high purity water. The team from SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner Clarkson University worked late into the night and was the only team to successfully treat the entire volume of waste. The team was commended by the judges for their holistic environmental approach to identifying a process solution.
