Two Madison County students traveled to Albany to attend the Association of New York State Youth Bureaus Youth Leadership Forum Feb. 9 and 10.
Stephanie Braun, a senior from Morrisville-Eaton Central Schools, and Alexia Reed, a sophomore from Brookfield Central Schools, participated in interactive leadership and educational seminars, discussion groups, engaged in teambuilding exercises and facilitated a workshop for 25 youth from across the state.
Both students attended a legislative breakfast and met individually with Assemblyman Bill Magee (D – Nelson) and an aide to Sen. David J. Valesky (D – Oneida). The two students voiced their concerns regarding changes and cuts being proposed in the governor’s proposed 2009-10 budget that negatively impact youth programs and services in Madison County.
"The last two years I have gone to Albany for the Youth Conference, and each year offers something new,” Reed said. “It is a time for youth to lead."
The trip was sponsored by the Madison County Youth Bureau as part of the Bureau’s program to increase opportunities for youth to become involved in their community and have their voice heard at the local and state level.
This is the third year that Madison County youth have attended the Association of New York State Youth Bureaus Youth Leadership Forum.
