The Syracuse Police department collected 36 guns on Feb. 4, the first of two gun buy-back days.

Illegally possessed guns were brought in between 7 a.m. and midnight last Wednesday. Residents can bring guns in on amnesty again on Feb 11. to the front desk of the Public Safety Building located at 511 S. State St.

When the gun amnesty program was announced a few weeks ago, there were mixed feelings on whether or not the program would be successful. However, police officials feel the buy-back program will be successful, according to Chief Assistant District Attorney Rick Trunfio

"We had great success last time…we got 200 illegal guns off the streets, 100 of them were handguns," Trunfio said.

The last gun amnesty program was held in Syracuse two years ago.
