The article highlighted Syracuse initiatives that are helping to build sustainable communities through technological innovation and entrepreneurship. Harvard Environmental Quality Expert to Present SyracuseCoE Research & Technology Forum, Feb. 9 John D. Spengler of Harvard University will give a talk titled "Leadership for Campus Sustainability" on Feb. 9, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. The talk will be held at the Life Sciences Building Auditorium (Room LSB 001) on SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner Syracuse University's main campus. A brief Q&A will follow the talk. Spengler is Akira Yamaguchi Professor of Environmental Health and Human Habitation at the Harvard School of Public Health and director of the Sustainability and Environmental Management Program at the Extension School. Spengler has conducted research in personal monitoring, air pollution health effects, indoor air pollution, and a variety of environmental sustainability issues. Several of his investigations have focused on housing design and its effects on ventilation rates, the selection of building materials, energy consumption, and total environmental quality in homes. The talk is sponsored by the SU Vice President for Research. It is co-sponsored by SyracuseCoE as part of its Research & Technology Forum series, supported by a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency. Request for Applications: 2010 SyracuseCoE Graduate Fellowship Program SyracuseCoE is seeking applications for competitively awarded one-year Graduate Fellowships. Proposed Fellowship projects will address research questions associated with either air quality or water resource management, in support of the development of technology innovations for improving environmental quality in built and urban environments. SyracuseCoE is specifically interested in supporting graduate fellowship projects that focus on research that utilizes the capabilities of the newly completed SyracuseCoE Headquarters Building in Syracuse, NY.
