More than $100,000 in scholarships were awarded May 22 during Baker High School’s 35th annual Moving Up Day.
Graduating seniors received a total of 103 scholarships from the Baldwinsville Community Scholarship Foundation and numerous businesses, organizations and memorials. One of the most prestigious honors awarded at the ceremony, an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, went to senior Nolan Miles. He is the sixth student in the past eight years to receive the appointment.
In tradition, the ceremony opened with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Senior Tom Madison singing the Star Spangled Banner and closed with the “moving up” exercise. Seniors, who were seated in the center of the stadium, cheered as they rose and exited the stadium. Juniors were then granted permission to move to the seniors’ section symbolizing their advancement to their senior year, and the sophomores moved to the juniors’ section.
