Sometimes celebrities are made right in your own backyard.
Locally, Central New York’s member-supported public broadcasting station WCNY TV helps highlight some of the people in the background, the ones who are still working their way up in their careers. At 9 p.m. Thursday April 1, WCNY will air a program where Skaneateles’ own Lisa Jo Greenfield, an entrepreneur, mom and columnist, will talk about her experience as a past participant in the Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship Symposium.
As a member of the Key4Women program through Key Bank, a major sponsor of the WISE Symposium, and winner of the Key Bank Achieve award, Greenfield was chosen to be on WCNY in preparation of this year’s conference.
The WISE Symposium, in its eighth year, is scheduled for April 8 at the Oncenter in Syracuse.
“It is the premier event for those thinking about starting a business, current business owners and for those in a corporate business setting. It is attended by over 1,000 women,” said Greenfield, proprietor of Essential Health Solutions and health columnist for the Skaneateles Press.
There are breakout sessions and seminars for attendees, opportunities for networking, motivational speakers, panel discussions and much more during the conference along with a business expo.
This year’s keynote speaker is Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies.
“This event is important because it gives women entrepreneurs the information and resources they need to be successful. It was at the WISE Symposium that I learned about the WISE Center, which is a year-round business center, and the South Side Innovation Center which is a small business resource center,” Greenfield said. “Had it not been for my attendance at the WISE Symposium, I would not have known about these two great resources.”
Greenfield said she has benefited from the WISE Center and the South Side Innovation Center so much that she is currently reaching out to others through a business counceling program with Joanne Lenweaver, director of the centers.
During the WCNY program, Greenfield plans to tell listeners she was introduced to the WISE Symposium because of her involvement with Key4Women. Last year she attended her first business expo and gained valuable information that has helped her advance her business.
“It was a very positive experience,” Greenfield said. “I highly recommend that both women and men attend this event. I have built some great relationships as a result of having participated.”
The April 1 broadcast will be Greenfield’s first live television appearance. For more information about this year’s WISE Symposium, log onto wiseconference.com.
