Why are you running for Manlius town supervisor?
I believe that with my professional background in the financial industry for over 27 years and my experience as Minoa village trustee now in my second four-year term, that I have the ability and knowledge for the position of Manlius town supervisor.
Also, I have lived in the town of Manlius for over 30 years and have worked all of my adult life for positive change. My family and I now feel that the best way for me to continue to serve the people in the town of Manlius is to seek the office of Manlius town supervisor.
Name two key issues happening within the town that concern you and please describe what you would like to do to address them, if elected.
One key issue that concerns me is communication and the relationships between the town and villages, which I believe needs improvement. There needs to be a better partnership with our town and villages. With my experience as a village trustee, owning my own business and understanding employer-employee relationships, I know how to bring all of the parties together to learn to work together and improve communications.
Another key issue is land use planning. We need to grow as a community if we’re to remain strong and healthy. This needs to be a controlled growth so we don’t place unnecessary stress on our existing town services and personal property rights of others. So, as a board we need to manage growth which preserves property rights and the natural resources in the town.
Name at least two key issues happening within the town that you believe affect town residents- positive or negative. What changes would you make, if any?
I can sum up one of the key issues with one word: Taxes. As I have visited with many town residents while campaigning door to door, their main concern is how we control the taxes in the town. Again, with my municipal experience, one of the best ways is to keep expenditures under control which will help keep taxes stable. Another is to encourage commerce in our town, which will help spread the tax base.
Another key issue affecting town residents is that we have the burden of the federal and state government passing unfunded mandates down to us that has a negative affect on the budgetary process. We need to manage that which we can control the most efficient way possible.
I have established a good relationship with our legislative leaders in Albany as a member of the New York Conference of Mayors and elected officials for the past six years. This helped us on the village level, and will on the town level, when it has come to challenging them and working with them to stop some of the unfunded mandates they have tried to pass down to us.
Why should the town of Manlius residents vote for you?
I will bring experience, leadership, a new energy and new way of looking at and addressing the issues that are important to our citizens. I will also bring a renewed sense of public service to the people of our great town. As I stated earlier, our board needs to work together for our town residents and have open and positive communication with our villages and their leaders. These are just some of the reasons why the town of Manlius residents should vote for me.
