Delicious eats on a Madison County route
The local luxuries of Madison County are flourishing to the public's delight during this year's Buy Local Week. Community members are encouraged to stop by each restaurant for a taste of unique cuisine inspired by fresh local products from farms and markets. Five restaurants and several farms are included on the passport for a tour of the fresh tastes of Madison county.

A look at the farms serving the county
Alambria Springs Farm is a locally supported diversified vegetable and livestock farm located in Lebanon NY. We are committed to standards and quality that go beyond the “organic” label by respecting the land and its intricate and diverse living systems. We are participating in the “Open Farm Day” for farm tours and tours of our off-grid timber-framed straw bale home. We will have produce available for sale.
Ben and Judy’s Sugar House is a full-service sugarhouse offering maple syrup, cream, candy, jelly, and other maple products.
BMR Acres is a family run farm located in Canastota, in the Town of Sullivan featuring alpacas, baby doll sheep and silky chickens. Their on-site country farm store specializes in alpaca products and other locally made products. Feed and pet the animals, watch as fiber is spun into yarn, try your hand at felting, learn about animal reiki and visit with other local vendors and artisans. There will also be a debut of ‘A Paca Dreams’ cria Abigail Rose.
Brick Farm is a family-owned farm selling free-range eggs. Come stop by and see how a free-range chicken farm operates while sampling farm fresh omlettes made to order and play with the baby chicks.
Canaseraga Farm is a dairy farm featuring strawberries, tomatoes, Henry’s famous sweet corn, as well as homegrown squashes, cucumbers, potatoes, blueberries, plums, watermelon, cantaloupe, apples, pumpkins, a variety of local cheeses and Pennsylvania Peaches. Stop by to sample some cheese and other homegrown veggies.
Common Thread is a Community Supported Agricultural farm is located three miles North of Colgate University. Throughout the growing season members come directly to the farm and pick up their share of seasonally available produce as well as a wide variety of pick your own (PYO) crops.
Critz Farms is a family owned business that was established in 1985 and located on 325 acres just South of Cazenovia, NY. Recognized by the New York State Department of Economic Development as recipients of the New York State Agritourism Business of the Year Award, the farm operation centers on diversified agriculture with a family entertainment focus. Come stop by and take a walking tour of the farm including the new animal barn, the cider mill with antique press and the sugar house. Visit the gift shop for free tastings of cheddar cheese and maple syrup.Take the kids to the playground and visit the animals.
Nestled in the hills of Madison County, Endless Trails raises Black Angus grass-fed beef sold under the Sunnybrook Farm label. Come and check out the beautiful vistas or go horseback riding on the 130 acre Brookfield Trail System across the road.
DeRuyter Farm and Garden Co-op is a farmer owned co-op offering the finest perennials, annuals, trees, and shrubs, grown in DeRuyter and Central New York.
Divine Providence Farm raises free-range chickens and eggs. Divine farmers welcome the community to come and visit and buy local, of course.
Drover Hill Farm is a historic Victorian farm features a unique double kiln hop house, a nationally known herd of Scottish Highland cattle, fine Black Angus cattle and a charming Victorian Bed and Breakfast. This is a working farm, using nature’s bounty to produce pasture-raised beef without hormones or antibiotics. Come out for a farm tour, samples, and a 15% discount on any of our beef or pork. The Durfee Farm and Durfee family presents a friendly, meticulously-cared-for herd of top-producing Holstein cows, and a produce stand that sells sweet corn, tomatoes, honey from hives on the farm, & many other farm-fresh items. The Durfee Farm and family celebrate Buy Local Day with half price corn, food samples, honey demos, & cow encounters.
As the first commercial hop-yard in Madison County in more than 50 years, Foothill Farms is working to both preserve the past and shaping the future. Visitors are welcome to tour the hop yard and visit our farm and homebrew shop. Something for everyone is at the farm: jewelry, soaps, beverage themed gifts, miniature livestock, alpacas and even reindeer. On the farm refreshments will include multi-grain beer bread, beer and hop mustard samples, and refreshing hop and ginger lemonade.
Heritage Farm is a not-for-profit agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities. The farm sells eggs, seasonal produce, rabbits, goats and goat milk soap. Bring the family to pet the animals and take a self-guided tour through our beautiful gardens. Stop by and try a little grilled zucchini and some grilled Hasenpfeffer.
Holmes Acres is a working dairy farm producing the finest milk around. Come see happy cows at work.
Ingallside Meadows is a family run farm intent on raising healthy food for a growing family. We like to know where and how our food was raised, and are offering this opportunity to others who may be concerned about the diverse effects of factory farming on our food supply and environment. Located 25 miles east of Syracuse, 7 miles north of Cazenovia, we offer pastured broilers, fresh-air pork, 100 percent grass-fed beef, and fresh eggs from pastured hens.
Johnston Honeybee Farm has developed its own strain of mite-resistant bees that no longer require the use of pesticides to control parasitic honeybee mites. Our new honey house uses gravity flow for the bottling of both raw and heated liquid honey. The honey house has an observation area from which the honey extracting process can be observed. Our sweet soils in Madison County produce a light colored, mild flavored honey that people really like. Come and check out our new our farm shop that is just getting started but should get better all the time.
Lyonwood Farm is a farm with a roadside stand owned and operated by Fay and Margie Lyon with help from Miriam Barrows of Erieville who also provides produce and canned goods. Our motto is "picked fresh daily and as natural as possible." We feature only homegrown fruits and vegetables. We are open daily from 10:00am to 7:30pm June until October.
Maple Avenue Farm raises Black Angus cattle without hormones or antibiotics since 1948. Humanely finished on grain or grass, our delicious dry aged beef is available year round.
Meadowood Farm features pasture-raised lamb, beef, and sheep-milk yogurt and cheese. At 3 p.m. visitors are welcome to watch us milk our dairy sheep.
Come and visit Madison County's largest farm store, Mosher Farms, located south of Route 20. The farm store features farm-grown seasonal fresh produce, specializing in strawberries, peas, sweet corn, cabbage, beans, squash, cucumbers and pumpkins. The store features u-pick strawberries, raspberries and blueberries available when in season.
The Farm in Caz is a working 80-acre farm located on the northwest side of the Nelson Valley, just under a mile from Route 20, with fields and wooded areas surrounding the farm. Corn, alfalfa, oats, and hay are grown and harvested on 40 acres, while the balance grows natural, with trails through the fields and forest, offering views of the valley and wildlife.
The Olde Homestead is a family owned farm that raises Olde English Miniature Babydoll Southdown Sheep. They say the name is bigger than the sheep, but we simply refer to them as our "Babydolls". Come pet the Teddy Bear Sheep with a Smile. Demonstrations in processing wool by hand and honey preparation.
Wild West Elk Ranch is a family owned and operated elk ranch. Cody & Cindy Mikalunas, and their son Jerrad, started this ranch with four elk in 2001, and have been building ever since. We now sell Elk and Buffalo meat out of our Gift Shop, which is located right in our home. The family invites the whole county to come out and visit.
