Mary Ann Coogan, Town of Camillus Supervisor 06/19/09More articles
Onondaga County Resource Recovery is offering a free service to residents in the Onondaga County service area. You can take your old room air conditioner, dehumidifier, or propane tank to Ley Creek for proper disposal. Reservations are not required. The event is for household items only; business items will not be accepted. The event will be held on Saturday June 20 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The refrigerants extracted from the old air conditioners will be recycled and then the metal will be recovered for recycling. The recycling process properly manages greenhouse gases and also reduces the need for raw materials.
OCRRA, in conjunction with New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and Oneida Lake Energy Products, host this special environmental event. The purpose behind the event is to give people an outlet for responsible disposal (keeps the environment clean/keeps hazardous elements out of the trash) and make room for energy smart products that will use less energy (minimizes our environmental footprint on the earth).
During OCRRA’s Special Events at Ley Creek (Household Hazardous Waste and Propane/AC Days), Ley Creek does not accept trash or recyclables, it is only open to accept special event items. Ley Creek Transfer Station is located at located at 5158 Ley Creek Drive, Liverpool, NY 13088, 7th N. St., east of exit 25 from Route 81, across the street from the Pilot Travel Center. OCRRA can be reached at 453-2866 or log onto their Web site at ocrra.org.
As always, I can be reached at 488-1335 or email me at macoogan@townofcamillus.com.
