eleahy, Thu, October 1st, 2009 Now that Fall is in the air that means it’s time to think Fall fashion forward. And after rummaging through Vanity Fair’s recent style issue, I wondered, “Why are we still wearing jeans?” Or, should I say, “Designer jeans?” Also known as really, really expensive, tight jeans in a variety of cuts. I wondered this out loud and my boyfriend said, “What else are we going to wear?” He has a point. But I ask the question because I thought the whole jean thing was a bit of a movement that forgot to move on. So what is our connection? Because I find jeans to be pretty uncomfortable. I mean when I was out hiking around the woods and streams and cornfields as a young flower child, jeans were actually somewhat protective or functional; pretty good for riding on motorcycles or as work pants, too. One great feature was that you could rub your cigarette ashes into the jean fabric on your thigh and it would magically disappear. And the zippers were extra heavy duty so lighting a white tip match was a breeze. But quite frankly I have to admit that I find today’s jeans to be a bit binding - and the new ones got all kinds of stretchy stretch going on, so that they tend to grab and hold, and not let go – youch, I’d like a little movement in my fabric. But then again, consider that I often wonder why skirts haven’t come back into fashion for men. You know the Scots and their kilts and the gladiators in their minis. I’ve always thought that a skirt would make more sense for a man and his parts. For that matter the dress is actually a great garment. First of all there is just one item to put on and these days less is definitely more. The dress, without slip is the answer, for both men and women. Just think guys, no more jackets and ties, no more button-down collars, no more tucking in. There is just one catch – high heels. CATEGORY: General Society
