You know, I didn't have much to say when Tim Russert died. And I don't really have much to say now, as the news of George Carlin's death has reached me.
But I will say this: Though I didn't agree with him on all points, I've always admitted that Mr. Carlin not only made us laugh, but think as well.
This clip from a television appearance in 1976 shows just how deeply Carlin thought about everything -- even the inner workings of a child's mind. And it shows that he had a respect and understanding of youth that few grownups can ever muster. Perhaps that was because he, unlike most other adults, never lost the youthful joy in living.
